This story follows the journey of Earthling, Arthur Dent whose home planet is destroyed in order to create an intergalactic spaceway. Luckily he is saved by his friend Ford Perfect, actually an alien, and they soon find themselves upon the spaceship Heart of Gold with Galactic President Zaphod Beeblebrox and his human companion Trillian. They go to Magrathea, for an unknown reason other than that Zaphod needs to go there. The group then proceeds to split up and Arthur goes off with a stranger. This stranger reveals the real reason why Earth was created and that they are making a second one.
My First Impressions:
I really hope this book doesn’t make me hate the movie.
This is the first time where I have read a book, and watched the movie, and still liked both. I like what they added into the movie but I still really liked the book itself.
The pacing was perfect for the time frame that the story takes place in (which since it’s in space there is no real concept of time). I also loved the characters and wanted to know more about them as I read.
The best thing about this book has been the humor. Some books can end up being very dated as time goes on, but it wasn’t the case for this one. Adam’s humor still translates well into today
Definitely will read again, but I want to get a hold of the whole series first.
