When Your Current Reading is Too Much

Bookworms, like me, have a problem. Often we start reading multiple books at one time.

We get a new book, add it to our Goodreads current reading list, and it’s here that we realize that we still have six other books on our “Current Reading” that were updated about 4 months ago. Oh dear. Now you have this feeling hat you need to finish all of them. What are you going to do?

Here are some ideas:

Get them all in one place.

We are more likely to read a book that is right in front of us. Hence why we start reading a book as soon as we buy it. It’s right there. So if you have a minute grab all of your current reading books and place them where they will be seen the most. This can be next to your bed, in your reading space, or even on your coffee table. Where ever you read the most, they need to be staring at you.

Keep one on you.

Always have a book with you when you leave the house. It’s good to have one on hand, especially if you are going to deal with a long wait, or just going on a small break at work.

Start with the book you are most invested in.

This tip speaks for itself, because you aren’t going to get through that list if you start with a book that you feel like you want to put down.

Try a reading marathon.

I do this once in a while, especially if my current reading list is around 7 books, and is usually advertised on my Instagram when I do one. It’s best to work on this if you have a weekend off, or are on vacation because it can take up quite a bit of time. The unfortunate side of effect of this is book burnout, and eye strain. If you have a lot of books and are only about a 1/4 of the way through each, it will take up a lot of time.

Pace yourself.

Get out a calculator. Now count the number of pages you have left and divide that by the number of days you want to read it in. Or instead just try to get through a chapter/section a day. This way you wont have the side effects of book burnout.

These are just a few ways of trying to get through your current reading list. Do you have any ideas that I haven’t tried yet? Let me know in the comments below!
